What is SCEPTER

Welcome to SCEPTER

The automated tool for evaluating basketball talent and potential in dynasty fantasy leagues.

SCEPTER stands for Statistical Calculation for Evaluating Potential, Talent, and Efficacy Ratings, and it’s designed to provide data-driven insights into player performance and future growth.

Key Components of SCEPTER

SCEPTER combines traditional and advanced statistical metrics to deliver a holistic view of each player’s value. The system evaluates players based on their current performance, future potential, and overall impact on the game. Here’s how each component contributes to the SCEPTER score:

1. Current Performance

Scoring Efficiency: Evaluates a player’s ability to score effectively. Metrics like Points per 100 possessions (PTS), True Shooting Percentage (TS%), Effective Field Goal Percentage (eFG%), Free Throw Percentage (FT%), Two-Point Percentage (2P%), and Three-Point Percentage (3P%) are normalised and weighted to assess overall scoring prowess.

Ball Handling: Assesses a player’s ability to manage the ball, including assists (AST), turnovers (TOV), Assist Percentage (AST%), and Turnover Percentage (TOV%). These metrics are normalised and weighted to reflect their contribution to efficient playmaking.

2. Defensive Ability

Defensive Impact: Measures a player’s defensive contributions using metrics like steals (STL), blocks (BLK), defensive rebounds (DREB), and defensive rating (DRTG). These metrics are normalised and weighted to gauge a player’s effectiveness in preventing the opposing team from scoring.

3. Hustle and Intangibles

Hustle Metrics: Evaluates a player’s effort and impact beyond traditional stats. Includes metrics like total rebounds (REB), offensive rebounds (OREB), defensive rebounds (DREB), steals (STL), and blocks (BLK) per 100 possessions. These metrics are normalised and weighted to reflect a player’s work ethic and hustle.

4. Potential and Growth

Age and Predicted Growth: Considers a player’s age and potential for improvement. Younger players with significant room for growth are given higher potential scores, while older players are evaluated based on their ability to maintain or improve performance.

Team Belief: Assesses the confidence and role a player has within their team. Players with high team belief scores are more likely to receive consistent playing time and opportunities to contribute, impacting their overall fantasy value.
